Springtime in Holland

Sun is shining, temperature is going up and people found their way to the stores to collect a spring/summer wardrobe! Even though its definetely not the time yet to go for a swim, bikinis are way more popular than any other country more in the south.. Could it be that people are obsessed with these items because of the sunshine? I think so.. Holland is known by its long winters and cool summers. Sun is not an everyday thing and especially last weekend, the temperature was nice (15 Celsius) with a lot of sunshine..

Everybody seems to be much more happier and when i was going for a run on sunday i was surprised by the amount of people that were walking, hiking, biking or whatever in the open air. I noticed my mood is extremely more positive as well.. I was used to have sun everyday during my time in Mexico last year and really, you do not get sick of it and you feel the energy rising by the day! We should have a year full of sun too in Holland, but unfortunately, thats one thing human beings don't have any influences on. But well, as long as we have those nice sunny days we better enjoy them for the maximum..

For example, in Holland during spring and summer time people meet on the 'Terrasjes". Sitplaces around bars and cafes where people drink and chill and the most important thing: watching other people walk by and usually make comments about them (mostly negative). Yes, its typically Dutch and i admit, kind of rude. But whats better than checking people out by their strange way of clothing, a jacket that is inside out or just someone with a very bad hairday? With a cold glass of wine, or whatever you prefer, some sunshine on those baby ass white faces of us, life has never been better!

When fall is coming, the "Terrasjes" dissappear, festival season is closed and the beach bars are not a good sight anymore. That's the time the sky turns grey, the streets are filled with leaves and peoples mood changes into kind of depressing because of the sunshine they don't get anymore.. No, i'm really a summer person who loves to be in the sun. I think most Dutch people agree with me and thats the reason everybody likes to buy those 5 pair of bikins, sandals, jumpsuits and other beach- summer wear what we aren't even able to wear it all because of the short summer, but its just a nice view into your "summer" wardrobe!

Some trends keep amazing me how popular they seem to be..

One of them is the new Prada shoe that was seen on the catwalk for spring/summer 2011.

The shoe is a mix of a sneaker with espadrilles and could expect a huge amount of followers.

The first sale items were immediately sold out and they a huge run for this fashion item next season. Prada already put down a waiting list because of the high amount of interested fashionista’s..

Can’t be really enthusiastic about this shoe, that, although it might be comfortable, be hard to mix with my outfits because of the enormous colour differents it will bring, but also my work and live area might be not ready for it;)

The price is worth mentioning as well, for one pair they expect you to cash down 570 euro and willing to be on the waiting list! I prefer to spend this money on a Prada bag or some boots, but I’ll respect the first fashionista seen by me with these shoes on!

In may I will fly to New York for one week, perhaps the streets are filled with these shoes by that time.. Who knows? I’ll let you know;)

Outfit of the week

Yes, i know i am addicted to blazers, colberts, jackets, coats..Well every top that is wearable in layers and easy to put on with mostly long or 3/4 length sleeves!

I found an amazing blazer from Object a brand that sells casual, elegant clothes with a chique and often sporty look.. There it was, in the rack, only 1 piece left,  my size, staring at me.. Please try me on!

Sounds a little bit dramatic, but i bet a lot of girls would describe this situation as the same. I tried it on and it suited me very well. I didn't have an over sized blazer yet and i was carefully looking for 1, but didn't want a standard piece, like everybody has in their closet. This one is ruffled ( a detail i seem to like) and again, in a natural color. Natural colors make me not look pail and are so easy to mix with black, brown and in summer, white! Recently i found a nice waist belt made out of Suede in a grayish color that goes along perfectly with my favorite color shades!

Nude, is a hot trend next season, so prepare for seeing a lot of these shades mixed with interesting colors, because color blocking seems to be very popular as well.. Everything is possible, so please dare to wear a lot of colors that suits you!

Recept van de week

Sinds mijn reis naar Mexico, is mijn smaak zo ongeveer helemaal veranderd. Je moet wel anders eten daar, aangezien het brood alleen in zakken zit en 3 weken houdbaar is, de kaas helemaal niet smaakt zoals hier en het fruit en groente is er in overvloed wat een enorm pluspunt  voor mij is omdat ik nauwelijks vlees eet.

Omdat ik niet veel brood at, maar wel veel groente, fruit en die overheerlijke guacamole van avocados, was het belangrijk om ook eens vis te eten. Voorheen at ik wel eens vissticks, maar van een stuk zalm of tonijn moest ik niks weten!

In Playa del Carmen barst het van de sushi eettentjes, dus ik ben er met een vriendin heengegaan om de smaaksensatie te beleven waar iedereen zo enthousiast over is.

Ik begon met vegetarische rolletjes en ging daarna toch maar over op de tonijn.

Eén woord: Heerlijk! Ik was meteen verkocht.. Daarna nog regelmatig sushi gegeten en meer geëxperimenteerd met het eten van witvis, zalm en tonijn door bijvoorbeeld salades of in combinatie met groenten.

Dit heeft doorgezet na mijn terugkomst in NL, waardoor ik het erg leuk vind om vis te bereiden en recepten op te zoeken die niet alledaags zijn.. Vooral tonijn vind ik erg lekker en is ook behoorlijk gezond! Zelf tonijnsalade maken vind ik het lekkerst met wat tonijn uit blik, olijfolie erdoor en wat uitjes, tomaten en olijven naar smaak toevoegen. Op een broodje of zelfs tosti is dit een heerlijke lunch of snack!

Dit recept vond ik via smulweb, is ideaal voor 2 personen en ook nog eens licht verteerbaar!

Grillen is de ideale manier om de smaak tot zijn recht te laten komen bij de vis. Gegrilde groenten zijn ook erg lekker, dus hier ga ik binnenkort mee aan de slag.

2 moten tonijnfilet
3 eetlepels Japanse sojasaus
250 g sperziebonen
3 eetlepels (olijf)olie
1 citroen
2 bosuitjes
75 g waterkers
150 g worteljulienne of geraspte wortel
4 eetlepels seroendeng (gebrokkelde pinda’s en stukjes kokos)

Wrijf de tonijnmoten in met 1 eetlepel sojasaus en 2 eetlepels (olijf)olie en laat ze 10 minuten liggen. Maak de sperziebonen schoon en halveer ze. Kook de sperziebonen in een pan met ruim water en wat zout in 8 minuten beetgaar. Spoel ze in een zeef onder koud stromend water af en laat ze goed uitlekken. Boen de citroen schoon en rasp er een 1 eetlepel gele schil af en pers de citroen uit.

Snijd de bosuitjes in ringetjes en verwijder de grove takjes uit de waterkers.

Klop in een slakom de citroenrasp en het citroensap met 2 eetlepels sojasaus en 2 eetlepels (olijf)olie. Schep de sperziebonen, rode peper, bosui, worteljulienne en waterkers door de dressing. Laat een grillpan goed heet worden en rooster de tonijnfilet in 6-8 minuten mooi bruin.

Keer de tonijn pas als de geroosterde kant vanzelf van de ribbels loslaat. Het gaat erg snel, dus houd goed in de gaten!

Verdeel de salade over twee borden, strooi de seroendeng erover en leg de tonijn erop.

Lekker met mie of meergranenbrood.

Carnaval..

Het was weer die tijd van het jaar waarin alle plaatsen in het zuiden van het land veranderen in Oeteldonk, Kielegat, Strienestad, Kruikestad, Krabbegat en ga zo maar door. De namen komen lichtelijk overeen met de gekte die dan heerst door de hele stad heen.

Ik hou daar wel van, dus besloot ik om dit jaar weer mijn kattenpakje aan te trekken en me naar het zuiden te begeven! Op het station was nog niet heel veel te merken van de carnaval behalve wat lallende boeren met pruiken op en dametjes met polkadot rokjes die alvast wat drank hadden ingeslagen om in de stemming te komen. Het feest duurt officieel van zondag tot en met dinsdagavond (vastavond). Ik zou het niet kunnen volhouden om 3 dagen lang sóchtends al aan de wijn of aan het bier te zitten, maar respect voor de mensen die het wel kunnen! Eerst even wat prosseco  flesjes de baas gemaakt en daarna op naar Oeteldonk! In de trein is de carnavalssfeer wel echt te merken, want de flessen drank, alle carnavalskrakers en de spectaculaire outfits vliegen je om de oren. Niet is te gek deze dagen en iemand die zegt geen outfit te hebben moet maar eens goed in zijn/haar garderobe kijken, want creatief zijn met carnaval kan iedereen! Neem bijvoorbeeld al je glans leggings van vroeger, combineer ze met sweatshirts en zweetbandjes en je bent een 80’s girl! Neem een oude geruite blouse, een spijkerbroek, doe de pet van je vader op en leen eventueel wat klompen en je bent houthakker!

Aangezien ik in het midden van het land woon waar katholieken sterk in de minderheid zijn en mensen raar opkijken bij het woord carnaval moet je als inwoner van deze regio gewoon een paar dagen naar het zuiden om daar de echte carnavalssfeer te proeven. Een dag voor carnaval hoorde ik tijdens mijn werk een paar meisjes over het gebeuren praten. Ze vroegen zich af wat er leuk was aan deze gebeurtenis en dat ze zelf er nooit aan mee zouden doen. “Je gaat toch niet 3 dagen voor l*l lopen?!” Zei de een tegen de ander. Ik moest even bijkomen van mijn binnenpretje. Deze mensen weten waarschijnlijk niet dat je als niet- verkleed persoon in het zuiden van het land tijdens deze 3 dagen juist wel voor l*l loopt. Het is ingeburgerd en iedereen doet er aan mee. Anders is de enige optie het zuidelijke land ontvluchtten mocht je inwoner zijn van een van de carnavalssteden. Gelukkig zijn de carnavalshaters voor mijn idee sterk in de minderheid, dus dat zal geen probleem zijn.

Ook de trends in de media hebben gevolg op inspiraties voor carnavalsoutfits. Zo heb ik tig verschillende Ben Saunders types rond zien lopen, maar ook een aantal lady gaga look alikes.

Een populair outfit voor de oudere garde is het pak met bijpassende kleurige hoed met ontelbaar medailles op de borst, daar de jongeren zich inspireren met felgekleurde outfits, matrozenpakjes, tijgertjes, bijen, roodkapjes en sneeuwwitjes. 

Tot slot is de reden voor vele carnavalsvierders om deze traditie te blijven volgen, toch echt de sfeer tijdens deze dagen. Hoewel niet veel mensen het feest afsluiten met het vasten zit de sfeer er overal goed in. Geen chagrijnig gedoe als iemand tegen je oploopt of een glas bier laat vallen. Iedereen is vrolijk en danst met elkaar. Dat is volgens mij ook de traditie zoals het hoort, met zijn allen zuipen, zingen, dansen en ontzettend veel schransen!

Style icons

Ok, a lot of girls have them.. Style icons. Most of the time famous or important people/models/actors who inspire you with their style of fashion. Ofcourse once in a while we are bored with our icon and switch to another. Let’s be honest, back in the days I loved the style of Jennifer Lopez and, believe it or not, Lindsay Lohan. But after Jenny becoming a mum and Lindsay becoming an addict I prefer to look for some new inspiration..

First one is Sylvie van der Vaart, formerly known as Sylvie Meis. She became a Dutch tv host at TMF, the music programme, back in 2002. Her style was tropical, girly and sexy. Not really my style back then, but after she married soccer player Rafael van der Vaart and moved to Germany her sense of fashion became better and better. She became a celebrity in Germany and was seen, just like Heidi Klum and Claudia Schiffer on the cover of OTTO. A German fashion company. Holland was still keeping an eye on her, because after all, she is a Dutchie and nominated her for best dressed woman of 2009 in collaboration with Jackie Magazine.

Unfortunately, breast cancer was located in her body and after a lot of medications, hair loss and heavy surgery against this horrible disease, she was cured at the end of 2009. She decided not to give up on life and enjoyed it more than ever. Her short hair was praised all over Europe and became one of the most inspiring hair cuts of 2010. She was hosting different programs in Germany and moved to London with her family in the end of 2010 to support her husband at his new club. She is still working in Holland and Germany for different shows and events. Also, she is keeping up a blog about her life and her thoughts of fashion in Grazia, the Dutch glossy and fashion magazine. I love to read it every week and it inspires me what she thinks of different trends in fashion. I really like her style right now, because its feminine, business with a sexy touch. Enough reasons to keep on following my style icon!

Another quite new style icon of me is Blake Lively. Same age but taller so that not all of her styles will suite me, but still I enjoy seeing new inspiring outfits of this new IT girl that every designer would love to use in his/her fashion campaign! Since I am lightly addicted to Gossip girl I became to notice that I like her style of clothing, but mostly by day. Because of her well- presented cleavage and her connections in the ‘high class elite’ of Manhattan, I don’t think her night outfits would suit me the best, but Serena van der Woodsen rocks them!

Yes! Sun is back in Holland! Time to get some nice spring/summer outfits;)

I went to Veenendaal a few weeks ago and discovered some good new brands at the Nova Zembla store.

This store is one of my favourites in Veenendaal, like a lot of other fashion minded girls. Their collection contains over a long time brands like dept, diesel, replay, fornarina and miss sixty, but is updated recently with some good new brands!

One that caught my attention is Laundry room, a new brand which is available in a few Dutch webshops like label54, freshlabelz and the garage. The brand is known for oits feminine and romantic tops and dresses. Price range is mid-expensive and fabrics are full of quality!

I bought a ruffled top with high bow in my favorite natural color, which you will see a lot this summer..

De Restaurantweek is de ideale manier om voor een leuke prijs bij de beste restaurants een 3 gangen diner te bestellen! Deze week is denk ik het meest succesvolle culi-evenement van dit moment. In Nederland wordt het voor de 8e keer en in België voor de 7e keer georganiseerd. In totaal doen er 1750 restaurants mee en kunnen ongeveer 300.000 mensen een hapje eten. Voor 27,50 euro kan je genieten van een driegangendiner en voor 22,50 van een lunch van drie gangen. Er zijn zo’n 50 restaurants met één of meer Michelinsterren die meedoen aan de Restaurantweek. Deze mogen 10 euro extra rekenen. Een voorlopige lijst van deelnemende restaurants in Nederland is te bekijken op restaurantweek.nl. Wees snel met reserveren, want vol = dus echt vol!

Movies

Dinsdag 8 maart ging de langverwachte film dan eindelijk landelijk in première! In Amsterdam was de cast uiteraard zelf aanwezig om de film te promoten in het Delamar theater, maar in de overige uitverkochte zalen in de Nederlandse bioscopen konden de trouwe Gooische Vrouwen kijkers onder het mom ‘Ladies night’ ook genieten van de film. De serie was al een grote hit en trok ontzettend veel kijkers die maar wat nieuwsgierig waren naar de dagelijkse trouble in het Gooi van Willemijn, Cheryl, Anouk en Claire.

RTL 8 zendt sinds kort alle afleveringen uit van de serie zodat we helemaal in de sfeer komen voor we de film zien.

De serie, een idee van hoofdrolspeelster Linda de Mol, gaat over het turbulente leven van vier vrouwen in het Gooi. Na vijf succesvolle seizoenen, waarmee de makers zelfs een Televizierring in de wacht sleepten, hebben de dames hun parelkettingen aan de wilgen gehangen. Gelukkig voor de liefhebbers gaan de dagelijkse beslommeringen nu verder op het witte doek. In de film gaan de vier vriendinnen op vakantie en ontdekken ze de waarde van vriendschap.

Naast de Gooische Vrouwen zelf en de vaste cast zoals Alex Klaassen, Peter Paul Möller en anderen, hebben andere bekende Nederlanders een gastrol weten te bemachtigen, onder wie René Froger, Loes Luca, Loretta Schrijver, Quinty Trustfull en Paul Groot.

Must have items for spring/summer 2011!

Ok, since fashion week mania has just passed, let’s move on to the season that still has to come and were we need some new items in our wardrobe for!

The biggest trends in my opinion for spring/summer are:

• Flower prints with romantic silhouettes
• Nude shades in a dessert look
• Bright colours in a sporty look

About accessories: Don’t go easy on the details, you will see a lot of chunky necklaces, bright printed scarves, and high (wedge) heeled shoes! Summer glasses seems to become bigger every year, but still love them. Unfortunately they do have to fit you and match your face, so please try some on before buying them!

Since I am addicted to bags and jackets I already spotted some nice items, but I also really like the shoe trend of next season.. Wedge heels are more comfortable than normal ones, so I am looking forward to welcome some new pairs into my shoe wardrobe. Moccasins are still hot, so are the ankle boots in a lot of natural shades. The fabric you will see a lot is denim, but not only on jeans. Jackets, blouses and jumpsuit made of denim are very popular, i already noticed during my work. A denim jacket is an item every woman should have, doesn't matter what the washes or the colors are.. A vintage jacket is even more better and you should be proud of it if you have one!

The item you can’t be without in summer, is the jumpsuit. Last year it was upcoming, but now making its way trough the fashion world and I really hope you will see a lot on the streets this summer, even when its not sunny but combined with a nice jacket! I bought one last year at H&M and wore it all the time during my stay in Mexico.. Especially for a day at the beach it’s the most comfortable and fashionable piece in one that you can wearJ Supertrash has some nice ones, so do Asos and H&M. Short sleeve, blouse, long pants or short. They are available for every occasion!

Paris fashion week A/W 2011!

 Last and important part of all the fashion weeks has just ended. Many designers were excited to show their inspirations for fall/winter 2011. We couldn’t wait to see what would be the highlights this year at worlds biggest fashion event!

Clearly everybody got to know the exit of John Galliano at Dior because of some racist statements he made against people. Since the left of Galliano at Dior, the media speculates about the designer that will take his place..

Mr. Ackermann is being mentioned as a possible choice for Dior. Haider Ackermann, a Belgian guy that studied and lived is also the favourite of Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld.

The runway of Haider’s show was filled with a lot of leather, silk and suede, fabrics that will be very hot next season.. Under the sounds of Leonard Cohen’s A thousand kisses sleep, tall models walked their way over the runway with slim waists but more masculine details.

Jean Paul Gaultier honoured the older women from now by using his young models with grey, elegant hair pieces.A lot of suites, checkered trousers and blouses with high buttoned bows were spotted and tells us the show was very feminine and elegant. At the end, Jean Paul made his statement clear by letting the models carrying some grocery carts detailed with fur and silver!

The runway look I loved was the one from Stella McCartney. Day and night time looks mixed with both femininity and masculinity, some details that were seen more at the fashion week.

Daytime looks included balloon sleeve tops paired with pencil skirts or high-waist trousers. Sheer fabrics covered in polka dots and cocktail dresses with strategically-placed sheer panels made up McCartney’s evening-inspired looks.

Always something i am curious about.. It seems as a designer you were exclusive if Kanye West was not on your guest list, but i spotted some great pictures of the fashionable elite that, in my opinion, deserve to be seated front row!

Outfit of the week

Last week i went to Dusseldorf, Germany, for an appointment.. What an inspiring and beautiful city! Didn't like the all the maintenances that were on the streets, but i loved the buildings, architecture and the exteriors of stores. Ofcourse high-named brands were located on the best spots and i had to pay a quick visit to a couple of them, including H&M. The collection was similar as in Holland but you could see the style of German people is totally different than overhere! When i was in Amsterdam last week i spotted a few items at H&M i liked, but unfortunately they weren't available in my size.. In Dusseldorf though, racks were filled with these items in my sizes! My favorite one was a blouse (i'm addicted to blouses) in a coralish color. I loved the fabric and its quality, it's made of silk, together with the design. Today i wear it with my new Supertrash jeans under a cardigan.

I hope spring will arrive soon, because i already updated my wardrobe with a lot of items for this season!
When the temperature is going up, i think this blouse will fit perfectly with white jeans and some nice sandals..

My thoughts are in summer, my wardrobe is almost let it begin as soon as possible!

Conscious collection @ H&M

Since a couple of years, H&M is starting to use organic and environment friendly fabrics for their clothes. Organic cotton is something that is a pretty well-knowned term inside the H&M culture. However, this year H&M will launch a complete collection with environment friendly and greener materials such as organic cotton, Tencel® and recycled polyester. Eco smart materials are not old fashioned anymore, but are making their way into the fashion world and will become huge this year.

“By designing recurring Conscious Collections we have the opportunity to show in a variety of ways what’s possible using more sustainable fabrics,” says Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M Head of design. “Shades of white are the season’s biggest fashion trend and it feels right for this collection. White creates a romantic feeling with lace and Broderie Anglaise, but is also the basic colour in a sporty, relaxed style and in a preppy tailored look for men.”

Women’s collection is inspired by this seasons trends, with a lot of blouses, tunics and t-shirt in a romantic style with light and natural shades. In 2010, H&M also launched “the garden collection” which was also based on the use of environment friendly material.

Handbags, clutches, totebags, shoulder, one-strap etc.. Er zijn zoveel verschillende modellen, kleuren en stijlen dat er voor iedere vrouw op de wereld een tas is die precies bij haar past.. Wat hebben vrouwen met tassen en wat hebben tassen met vrouwen?? 

Ik heb altijd een tassentic gehad, vanaf vrijwel mijn 13^de levensjaar toen de fascinatie voor de modewereld begon. Voor mij is een tas een bijzonder stuk dat bij mijn meest gedragen kledingstijl past gedurende meestal 1 seizoen, maar het representeert ook een belangrijke gebeurtenis als reden dat ik de tas heb gekocht. Natuurlijk koop ik wel eens kleine tasjes voor bij een bepaalde outfit, een sport- of een strandtas, maar het meest gedragen exemplaar is ook gelijk de duurste en heb ik bijvoorbeeld gekocht van mijn 1^e loon, als trots op de kop getikt tijdens een stedentrip, als cadeau na mijn verjaardag, of als afsluiter en beloning van bv. Een stage. 

Nu zijn het geen designer bags van Louis, Gucci of prada, maar wel kwalitatief goede tassen die compleet naar mijn smaak zijn. Zo heb ik tijdens een stedentrip/werkweek naar Berlijn een unieke Limited edition H&M tas op de kop getikt.. Deze tas was een stuk uit de collectie van Margareta van den Bosch, destijds hoofdontwerpster van H&M. Zij had een lijn gelanceerd met stukken waarvan de kleur, stof , kwaliteit en het model haar favoriet waren en  bracht dit uit in zeer gelimiteerde oplage in geselecteerde winkels. De tas was van echt leer met een slangenprint en het model was helemaal naar mijn smaak! Natuurlijk een stuk duurder dan normaal, maar het was het waard. Ik heb die tas (voor mijn doen) ontzettend lang gebruikt totdat er een paar slijtageplekjes inkwamen, maar ik moet zeggen dat hij nog in zeer goede staat is! Af en toe zie ik hem liggen en neem ik hem weer eens mee als het een match is met mijn outfit.  Zo zie je maar, kwaliteit is zeker belangrijk bij een tas, zeker als je hem vaak gebruikt. Maar het verhaal erachter vind ik ook erg belangrijk en maakt dat ik hem elke keer met plezier draag.

Maar.. ik verwacht wel binnen enkele jaren trotse eigenaar te zijn van een designer bag!

Niet om de naam, maar de modellen en ontwerpen die elke keer weer vernieuwen bij bijvoorbeeld een paar van mijn favoriete merken: Gucci, Liu Jo, Micheal Kors en Louis Vuitton zijn echt mijn stijl. Als ik iemand op straat zie lopen met een mooie designer handtas, kijk ik even om en bekruipt mij wel een beetje een jaloezie gevoel.. Misschien heeft die persoon er keihard voor moeten sparen, maar dat moet in de meeste gevallen toch? Kijk naar mannen die vol trots in hun nieuwste Audi, Mercedes of BMW rijden, misschien hebben ze er zelfs een lening voor moeten afsluiten en wonen ze in een 1-kamer appartementje in Amsterdam-Noord. 

Maar toch, de vrouwen die deze tassen dragen doen dit vol trots en terecht! Ooit zal je aan mijn arm ook een LV’tje zien bungelen en deze ook vol trots dragen. Nu moet er alleen nog een gebeurtenis plaatsvinden waarbij ik echt de reden heb om deze aankoop te doen;) Want, alleen dan is het voor mij een pronkstuk! Ben benieuwd naar de verhalen achter tassen van andere fashionista's.. Let me know!
